Mitigation
Mitigation is the use of processes and/or actions to either reduce or alleviate the impact of an emergency threat. By mitigating loss, you are assessing potential risks and vulnerabilities in advance so as to prepare contingency plans and strategies to reduce that risk. Mitigation tasks can take many forms, such as upgrading facilities to meet better building codes or by installing early warning systems. It can occur during any phase of a disaster, but it is usually best to mitigate loss in advance of a disaster.
Such actions may include:
- Reviewing your insurance coverage
- Planning for contingency funds
- Identify and protect company assets
- Prepare a site assessment for your work location
