Response

The Response Phase is characterized by actions you take in the event of an impending disaster.

The Response Phase consists of 3 sub-phases:

  • The Increased Readiness Period: When an official threat or an emergency is imminent; it continues until the danger subsides or until it is superseded by emergency operations. Have the right priorities (self > family > employees > home > business > community).

  • [Photo of firemen during a rescue.]The Relocation / Shelter Period: When officials determine that citizen safety is endangered in the outdoors and citizens are ordered to either relocate or stay inside for safety.  When the hazard is either eliminated or reduced to acceptably safe levels, citizens will be allowed to return.  Ride out the emergency safely and securely.

  • The Emergency Operations Period: The actual response that begins with the start of the disastrous event and continues until the recovery period begins. Stay in touch with others throughout.
