Director's Office - Inspector General
Mission
To assist the Division by providing consistent reviews, evaluations, and recommendations to enhance accountability, efficiency, and integrity in the Division of Emergency Management.
Responsibilities
Section 20.055, Florida Statutes, mandates specific duties and responsibilities for the Office of Inspector General. These responsibilities include:
- Advising in the development of performance measures, standards, and procedures for the evaluation of state agency programs
- Reviewing the actions taken by the state agency to improve program performance and meet program standards and make recommendations for improvement, if necessary
- Providing direction for, supervising and coordinating audits, investigations and management reviews relating to the programs and operations of the state agency
- Conducting, supervising, or coordinating other activities carried out or financed by the state agency for the purpose of promoting economy and efficiency in the administration of, or preventing and detecting fraud and abuse in, its programs and operations
- Keeping the agency head informed concerning fraud, abuses, and deficiencies relating to programs and operations administered or financed by the state agency, recommending corrective action concerning fraud, abuses, and deficiencies and reporting on the progress made in implementing corrective action
- Ensuring effective coordination and cooperation between the Auditor General, federal auditors and other governmental bodies with a view toward avoiding duplication
- Reviewing, as appropriate, rules relating to the programs and operations of such state agency and make recommendations concerning their impact
Filing a Complaint
We recommend that complainants file their complaints with the agency having jurisdiction over the complaint subject matter. For complaints applicable to programs, activities, employees, and other matters under the jurisdiction of the Division of Emergency Management, please contact Kris Sullivan in the Office of Inspector General at Kris.Sullivan@em.myflorida.com. The Office of Inspector General will accept complaints filed by e-mail, letter, fax, and telephone. However, it is important to include all pertinent information and contact information from the complainant.

Whistle Blower Hotline
The Office of the Chief Inspector General, Executive Office of the Governor, coordinates the activities of the Whistle Blower Act by maintaining the Whistle Blower hotline. The hotline provides state employees with the opportunity to report significant instances of waste, misconduct, or mismanagement with their respective organizations without fear of retaliation.

Get Lean Hotline
The Florida Department of Financial Services operates a Get Lean Hotline to respond to telephone calls applicable to waste, fraud, and abuse within state government and accept suggestions on how the state can save money.
Callers may contact the Department of Financial Services Get Lean hotline 24 hours a day. The Florida Department of Financial Services states that callers may remain anonymous and names are kept confidential, when given.
