Recovery Programs
The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fire Management Assistance Grant Program (FMAGP) is a disaster assistance program designed to support states, local governments, and tribal governments in mitigating, managing, and controlling fires on publicly or privately owned forests and grasslands. To receive assistance through FMAGP, a state’s governor or an authorized representative must request a fire management assistance declaration while the fire is actively burning and poses a threat of becoming a major disaster.
The Individual Assistance Program supports individuals, households, and businesses in recovering from the impacts of a disaster or emergency by coordinating available aid to meet community recovery needs. Following a presidential disaster declaration, it is essential to inform affected populations through outreach and communication efforts such as press releases that assistance programs are available and to provide guidance on how to access eligible support.
The State of Florida manages the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Grant Program, overseeing funding that is passed down to eligible local governments and organizations across the state. The program helps state, tribal, and local governments, along with certain nonprofit organizations, respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the president. It provides federal funding for things like debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair or restoration of damaged public facilities and eligible nonprofit facilities.
