State of Florida Provides 9,000 Doses of COVID-19 Vaccine to AIDS Healthcare Foundation for Vulnerable Populations

Today, the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Florida Department of Health announced a new partnership with AIDS Healthcare Foundation to provide vaccinations to individuals living with HIV in Florida. According to the CDC, people who are in an immunocompromised state from HIV may be at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. By providing vaccine directly to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the state is ensuring that this population has access to the COVID-19 vaccine.

Through this partnership, AIDS Healthcare Foundation will be administering this vaccine at 18 locations in the following eight counties:

  • Broward
  • Miami-Dade
  • Duval
  • Escambia
  • Lee
  • Orange
  • Palm Beach
  • Pinellas

AIDS Healthcare Foundation is a global nonprofit organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 1.5 million people in 45 countries. AIDS Healthcare Foundation is currently the largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care in the U.S, and covers approximately 30 thousand individuals in Florida. According to the latest data, there are approximately 134,900 Floridians living with HIV.

At this time, under Executive Order 21-47, individuals deemed extremely vulnerable by a physician are eligible and can be vaccinated by a physician, advanced practice registered nurse or licensed pharmacist if they have a completed Florida Department of Health Form.
