Broward and Volusia Now Eligible for Help with Repair, Response Costs

Two more Florida counties affected by Hurricane Dorian are now eligible to apply for federal assistance to help pay for the cost of repairing damaged public infrastructure and responding to the storm.

FEMA announced that state and local government agencies, and certain private nonprofits, including houses of worship, in Broward and Volusia counties may be eligible for reimbursement under FEMA's Public Assistance program.

Grant funds reimburse eligible applicants for the cost of debris removal, lifesaving emergency protective measures and the repair, replacement or restoration of disaster-damaged facilities like buildings, roads and utilities.

To start the process, entities must submit a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) to the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) at https://floridapa.org/. The deadline for RPA submission is Jan. 8, 2020.

The following 12 counties were previously designated as eligible to apply for public assistance: Brevard, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Martin, Nassau, Osceola, Palm Beach, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns and St. Lucie.

FEMA worked with FDEM and local counties to document that these counties met the threshold for a federal declaration.
