FDEM Provides Update to Ongoing Public Assistance Payments

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) announced today that Public Assistance (PA) payments of $10,235,370.81 were processed to the Department of Financial Services (DFS) on July 9 for their review and payment to end recipients. For Hurricanes Hermine, Matthew and Irma combined, total payments of $239,606,333.95 have been processed to DFS.

Due to the fiscal year transition at the beginning of this month, FDEM Finance was briefly unable to process payments to DFS. However, FDEM’s Recovery Bureau continued to process more than $10,000,000.00 in PA funds to Finance during that period of time. This amount is reflected in today’s payment.

Payments processed to DFS so far this year are listed below by month:

January 2018            $18,260,767.89

February 2018          $15,935,526.87

March 2018               $39,759,641.93

April 2018                  $24,396,050.80

May 2018                  $54,937,862.02

June 2018                 $29,293,598.23

July 1-9 2018            $11,010,961.27

The PA program funds the debris removal, emergency protective measures, repair, restoration, reconstruction or replacement of a facility or infrastructure that is damaged or destroyed by disaster. The PA program also encourages protection of these damaged facilities and infrastructure from future events by providing assistance for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.

The Division will continue to ensure that Florida’s communities successfully recover from major disasters as quickly and with as much future budget certainty as possible. We are committed to expeditiously processing federal public assistance reimbursements in a fully transparent manner immediately following FEMA obligation.
